Beyond The Mask Podcast

Founder, Advocate, Leader, and Voice for Nurse Anesthesia
Sharon Pearce, DNP, CRNA, FAANA, FAAN, is a practicing Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist based in North Carolina and a lifelong advocate for the nurse anesthesia profession. She is a graduate of the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Nurse Anesthesia Program and currently practices as a 1099 CRNA, bringing decades of real-world experience to every conversation she hosts.
Sharon has spent much of her career at the intersection of practice, policy, and leadership. She has served as President of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA), past President of the North Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and as a registered lobbyist for more than 20 years. Her work in advocacy and communications has earned national recognition, including the Ira P. Gunn Award for Outstanding Professional Advocacy and the Agatha Hodgins Award for Outstanding Accomplishment.
As co-host of the award-winning Beyond the Mask Podcast, Sharon is known for creating thoughtful, honest conversations that explore not just what CRNAs do—but who they are, why their work matters, and where the profession is headed. She brings curiosity, courage, and compassion to every episode, often tackling the hard topics others avoid.
At the heart of Sharon’s work is a belief that progress happens when we understand our past, engage honestly with the present, and advocate boldly for the future. Her commitment to integrity, collaboration, and service continues to shape conversations that matter—both within nurse anesthesia and beyond it.
