Beyond the Mask Podcast Named AANA Public Relations Award Winner

When we started this podcast nearly three years ago, the goal was to spotlight our fellow CRNAs and bring attention to the past, present, and future of the profession. Thanks to everyone that’s joined the show, listened to an episode, and sent in feedback, we’ve been able to grow well beyond our expectations.

This month we’re proud to announce that the show hit another milestone. Beyond the Mask is one of the 2021 AANA Public Relations Award winners, which we couldn’t be more excited about. Every year, the AANA Communications Committee honors and officially recognizes state associations, individuals, or other entities in three different categories for outstanding public relations efforts that contribute significantly to the positive image of the nurse anesthesia profession, and we’re beyond grateful to be recognized during one of the most difficult times in healthcare history.

Hosted by Jeremy Stanley, EA, CFP®, AIF, and Sharon Pearce, DNP, CRNA, FAANA, the weekly podcast has been highlighting many of the most important discussions and events happening within nurse anesthesia thanks to the incredible guests that have shared their time.

Over the past year, we’ve been able to explore the CRNA field through in-depth conversations, lively debate, and storytelling. The show has also dedicated time to helping CRNAs better position themselves and their families from a financial standpoint by discussing topics dealing with everything from retirement and investing to planning for your 1099 business.

Along the way, we hope the show has been able to spread a positive, yet realistic image of the nursing world and the hurdles we face. Thanks for being a part of our success and thank you, once again, to the AANA for this award.

Make sure you subscribe to the podcast wherever you listen and join us on Facebook to continue the discussion.

Fighting for Inclusivity: How a CRNA Changed Her Community with Maureen McCartney Anderson

Our guest today has quite the story to tell about advocacy but it’s not the same advocacy we normally discuss on the show. Maureen McCartney Anderson, CRNA has been in-volved with her state association in New Jersey for a number of years and was on the path of advocating for professional rights, but that changed dramatically when her baby was born with handicaps. Now she’s pouring much of her energy into advocating for the special needs children’s population and making a difference in her community with the help of other CRNAs.

I started listening to this podcast religiously early on in my CRNA journey, a year before applying to CRNA school. The content in this podcast was one of my most helpful resources for getting into my first choice school, Wake Forest! It has also been a huge motivator for getting involved with the AANA now and throughout my career. I highly recommend this podcast to every prospective CRNA I meet.
