On This Episode:
We’re closing out the year with what’s becoming an annual conversation on the podcast. Today we’ve invited back NorthStar Anesthesia CEO Adam Spiegel and Chief Anesthetist Officer Randy Moore, DNP, MBA, CRNA, to update the state of the profession and discuss what’s to come for CRNAs in the year ahead. From business strategy shifts to workforce development to Surprise Billing, we’ll cover some of the top issues impacting anesthesia and CRNAs heading into 2024.
We’ve spent time with both Adam and Randy in previous years, so you can go back and listen to some of their past predictions. Both men have invested much of their time to the profession and have a great perspective on the key areas that affect many of their peers. These economic and policy changes are not just shaping the present, but also carving out a future for CRNAs and anesthesiologists.
Here’s some of what we discuss in this episode:
A high-level look at what’s happening in the anesthesia business sector.

Hospitals have had probably the worst two years from a financial perspective that they've had since the 2008 time period. They lost a lot of money last year, operating margins are basically flat this year, and they are struggling and feeling a lot of financial pressure.
