The nursing industry is filled with so many bright and talented people and today’s guest is just another example of that. Ayoade (Joy) Ademuyewo, DNP, CRNA is the founder and CEO of Lokum, which helps match vendors directly with anesthesiology providers without having to go through recruiting agencies. Find out why this could be the future of work as an independent contractor and learn more about the person behind it all.

Tracy Castleman, DNP, CRNA, APN-A, FAANA fills in for Jeremy as a guest host along with Sharon for today’s episode. As you’ll hear, Joy credits her experience as a CRNA and her DNP for helping her launch this company and build the relationships needed to grow the network. The app is the first product from the company and it’s something that any CRNA would be interested in learning more about. We see the future of work across many industries is an independent contracting, and especially in healthcare. COVID kind of open the Pandora’s box on that. Providers, they want the access to flexibility, autonomy, you know. All the CRNAs I know would love to do that and are doing that more.

-Ayoade (Joy) Ademuyewo, DNP, CRNA

Fighting for Inclusivity: How a CRNA Changed Her Community with Maureen McCartney Anderson

Our guest today has quite the story to tell about advocacy but it’s not the same advocacy we normally discuss on the show. Maureen McCartney Anderson, CRNA has been in-volved with her state association in New Jersey for a number of years and was on the path of advocating for professional rights, but that changed dramatically when her baby was born with handicaps. Now she’s pouring much of her energy into advocating for the special needs children’s population and making a difference in her community with the help of other CRNAs.

I started listening to this podcast religiously early on in my CRNA journey, a year before applying to CRNA school. The content in this podcast was one of my most helpful resources for getting into my first choice school, Wake Forest! It has also been a huge motivator for getting involved with the AANA now and throughout my career. I highly recommend this podcast to every prospective CRNA I meet.
